POKOTABI / Shigezo
Shigezo
Azabu-Juban izakaya Shigezo pairs a curated cellar featuring Juyondai and Aramasa with seared shime saba, warming hot pots, and a housemade tofu salad.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Located along the street on the 2th floor of an Azabu-Juban building, Shigezo is an izakaya where guests can unwind with carefully chosen sakes and seasonal drinking fare. What stands out first is the sake roster drawn from across Japan, listing prestigious labels such as Juyondai alongside Aramasa's Ecru and Lapis, Hiroki, and Denshu. Bottles rotate regularly, making each visit an opportunity for new discoveries.
The kitchen prepares a wide variety of small dishes and drinking snacks. Seared shime saba (cured mackerel) sourced from Sakaiminato has its skin torched crisp right before serving to render the rich fat, while crunchy whelk tossed with pungent stem wasabi offers a crisp seafood pairing. Inventive dishes round out the menu as well, including housemade tofu salad tossed with seasonal vegetables and aromatic herbs, and a piping-hot potato gratin flavored with gorgonzola.
For heartier evening meals, hot pot options include Kirishima pork sukiyaki or shabu-shabu, alongside tender simmered chicken in grated daikon broth. With beer, sour cocktails, wine, and shochu also on hand, plus all-you-can-drink plans and table reservations, it serves as a dependable venue for dinners and gatherings with friends.
